More Shopping

Well, another payday is soon to be upon me, and although it's my first full-time paycheck, it won't be my largest. The tokes have dropped off a little in the past three weeks (I think our guy 'Dick' got banned again...), and I took a couple of hours off early on a slow night. But it's still a decent sized check and most of the bills are paid.

So this time around, the 'major' purchases will include a new pair of thick-soled black work shoes--my Reeboks are starting to hurt my feet. I'm thinking of going with something with a reputation for being good walking shoes, either Rockports or Propets. Luckily there are a few outlet stores in the neighborhood I can check out.

I was also thinking of getting a new watch, but I've been without one for over a year now. But I'm probably going to wait. I want a Citizen echo-drive, but I don't think I want to shell out $150+ just yet for what amounts to just a piece of functional jewelry. It's funny, most of the people I work with are heavily into watches, rings, chains--basically any kind of bling. Take a look around the casino next time you're in Vegas and notice how many dealers and floorpeople are sporting gold accessories. That's not me at all. I don't own any rings, necklaces, bracelets, anything. I even stopped wearing my earring about six years ago, and probably won't do so again until I own a sailboat and get to talk like a pirate full-time.

Anyhow, I could use a new watch, but it's not a problem as long as I have my cell phone. The only obstacle is at work--I can't dig into my pocket to check the time when I'm on a dead table.

So besides the shoes, I think the only other thing I'm gonna buy this time around, besides gas, groceries, and other essentials, is a new office chair. This folding chair has got to go. It's tough to stay motivated and pound the keys for hours at a time when your ass isn't comfy. I've been doing some browsing and I can get a decent chair for around a hundred bucks. My last one was only like $90 at Best Buy and it was excellent, but it got smashed in the trailer during my cross-country move a few years ago.

Besides, I can't really spend too much money. I want to put a little in savings, and dinner at Andre's is likely gonna end up somewhere north of three Benjamins.

But a nice chair, good shoes, and a comfy place to rest your head--really, what else do you need?

Mikey
