Vacation: Day 1

Well, my current Vegas Vacation isn't quite the same as those in days past. I didn't stay out all night gambling, drinking, or carousing, I didn't wake up this morning and have to reach over the naked stranger sleeping next to me to get to the bottle of water on the nightstand, nor has all the cash in my wallet been replaced by ATM receipts.

Kind of a bummer, now that I think about it...

And unlike other vacations in the past, I'm not spending my day sitting under a palm tree, sipping a rum drink from a hollowed-out pineapple, staring at the ocean, and letting the hot Mexican gal in the bikini give me a dollar-a-minute massage right there on the beach, either.

But it sure would be nice.

So far, I've slept in, did a little websurfing, taken a shower, chatted with Angy for a bit, and thrown a load of laundry in the washer. Pretty glamorous, huh? As far as plans for the day, I'm probably going to have some lunch, spend some time answering emails from the past week, do more laundry and housecleaning, and maybe head out to the pool with a cocktail in one hand and a book in the other. It's shaping up to being a fairly mellow day.

I've got no plans for tonight, either.

Oh, before I forget, I wanted to give a shout out to the folks who were kind enough to hit the tip jar last week when I put out the call for donations (before my big nights on both sides of the poker table). Thanks much--it's always appreciated, and well, I scored enough to pay the phone bill this month. Also, yesterday I got a package from an anonymous donor who's been reading my Amazon Wishlist. They sent along a fairly hefty knife sharpening stone, but it didn't come from Amazon, so whoever it was already knows my address. But there was no note in the package and the receipt didn't offer any billing information. So whoever sent the sharpening stone, thank you very much!

As far as tomorrow goes, I think I'm gonna go down to the the dealer's temp service and put myself back on the 'available' list. I was talking to one of my co-workers last night, and he was down there on Friday, and they told him that if he dealt poker, they could put him to work every day. So I might do that. I know where they'd send me--to Binion's for their daily tournaments. I went through that last year when they wanted to hire me on call but insisted that I be available every night after 6 pm. That wasn't going to fly then, but now, going in through a temp service, I can pick and choose which days to work. I've got no plans for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so I might as well make a little extra cash on the side. And Binion's is having extra tournaments for another month or more, so there's plenty of work in this town now that every poker player in the country is here for the World Series. Besides, if I'm only working three or four nights a week, for just six or seven hours at a time at my home casino, it won't bother me at all to pick up an extra shift or two dealing tournament poker downtown.

Besides, you never know what opportunities it might lead to. At the very least, it'll pay my entry fees into a couple of other tournaments I'm planning on playing in later in the month.
