I was doing my usual bi-weekly ritual of writing checks, figuring the bills, and putting stamps to envelopes this morning when the thought struck me that I had no idea how many vacation days I still had left until May, four months hence, when I collect another two weeks worth.
This holiday season was a busy one at work, and I'm thinking I could use a little time off, even if I don't go anywhere. I thought I had three days left, plus the three floater days I collected on January 1st. I know I'm gonna need some time off during The Madness, so those three floater days are spoken for. And, ideally, I'd really like to just take the whole week off away from work so that it actually *feels* like a vacation (the past two years, I've gone back to work on either Sunday or Monday night, so I was away from the casino for just a couple of days).
So instead of wondering, I decided to call the payroll office. Turns out that I still have a weeks worth of vacation left to use! Woot! So with my floaters, that gives me eight days to play with between now and the end of April.
Well, the first thing is a no-brainer. I'm going to take five days off during March Madness, giving me nine days away from the casino when you factor in my weekends! Oh good lord, you have no idea how great it would be to not set foot in that place for nine days straight!
That still leaves me with three more days. I think I'm going to use one of them to try to get Super Bowl Sunday off. I'd love to be able to actually enjoy the game once again. That leaves two days in the bank, which I'll probably use to make another road trip down to Phoenix at some point. I don't have to use them all before May, but it's nice to know that they're there.
