Gonna Be a Dull Hump Day

Well, I've got a whole lot of Not Much to do today. I'm off, not even on-call, so the day is mine. Unfortunately, since it's been a lean week work-wise and I've gone more than a week without cashing in a tournament, I'm feeling cash-poor today, so I'm not going to do anything fun or frivolous for a few days.

I got most of my chores done yesterday--my room got re-arranged and made more functional, I finally got my TV hooked up, all my clothes have finally been put away, and everything else has been stashed in the closet. Today I'll do some laundry and figure out where to put all my booze, and the next time I crack a $125 day in tokes, I'm going to buy a couple of cheapie laminated fiberboard bookshelves from Wally World. All of my books are still sitting down in the garage with my camping gear and extra kitchen gadgets. Not that I'm looking especially forward to lugging them up the stairs, but my room will feel more like home if I have all of my books within easy reach. I'm also going to spend some time hanging all my framed pictures on the wall. Then I'll be pretty much done with all remnants of the move.

I *almost* got called in to work yesterday, which was unexpected--I was hoping to pick up another shift, but Tuesdays are pretty slow. But work called at 10:30 in the morning, asking me how soon I could get down to the casino, and I told them I could be there within the hour. So they said they'd call me back at 11:00 once they got a head count on the daily tournament. So I got my clothes ready and hopped in the shower, but when they called back at 11, it was basically a false alarm. They didn't need me after all. So I ended up snoozing for a couple of hours.

Since there's no chance of them calling me today, I may do a bit of grocery shopping later--I've been craving a salad for a couple of days and the crappy salad bar at work doesn't even come close to being good half the time, so I've done without. I almost broke down and went to Jack in the Box for one of their Asian chicken salads last night, but I'm not at the desperation point quite yet. But a good chef's salad with some good crunchy bits, a few extra veggies, and a dab of that crazy-hot red Thai sauce mixed in with the dressing just sounds especially good right now. Plus I don't have to cook it--it's just too damn hot to cook these days. And every time I go downstairs and sit at the dining room table, I immediately have three large fur coats all leaning on me at the same time, begging for attention, so I'm all about the cold food these days.

I had another interesting experience this past weekend that I forgot to mention. While I was on my daily quest to find the end of the internet, I stumbled across another blogger site called The Art of Mark Jarman, and I had a faceplant moment. One of my best friends from the high school years, who I haven't seen in 18 years, nor talked to in 12 years, was named Mark Jarman, and he was a helluva good artist back in the day. So I spent the afternoon browsing the blog, pretty sure that I'd reconnected with one of my best friends from years back. I ended up sending him an email, and he wrote me back first thing Monday morning. We exchanged phone numbers, and yesterday we talked for about 45 minutes, just catching up on events from the past decade.

It was good to hear from him again, and I'm hoping that we remain in touch. Of course, our lives have gone in completely opposite directions, so we may eventually run out of things to talk about, but in the meantime, I'm glad that I found him. Those ancient chapters in the lost book of Mikey chronicled some of the best memories of my life.

Anyhow, that's the news from here--rather dull today. But then again, judging from my responses, people seem to be turned off by all the poker talk, so maybe I'll scale it back for awhile. I'm not going to play in another tournament until sometime next week, so I won't have much to talk about anyways, as far as that's concerned.

Y'all have a great Hump Day!

Mikey
