They Always Said I'd Go Blind

I can't help myself--I had to do it.

My original eye appointment was set for two weeks from yesterday, but I had to change it. I've really noticed lately how bad my eyesight has gotten. Not that I'm gonna end up like Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder (hell, I can't play the piano anyways), but since I made that initial visit to the optometrist's office last week, I've started paying attention to things I should be able to see, but can't.

It takes me longer to focus and middle-to-long distances. I can't read the scores on the bottom of the screens on the huge TVs at the casino from more than thirty feet away. I already mentioned that I can't read the progressive amounts on any slot machine more than fifty feet away. But driving at night, when I first leave the house, is when I feel like I'm most affected, and it actually feels a bit dangerous for a minute or two.

So today, while I was puttering around the house, I decided to call the eye doctor back and see if I could move up my appointment--it's going to take a week to ten days to get my glasses back anyways, so I might as well get the ball rolling as soon as possible. Luckily, they had an opening tomorrow morning, so I grabbed it. So maybe by the time my original exam appointment rolls around, I'll be sportin' some new trendy specs. And I won't be a danger to those around me when I get behind the wheel.
